This Cornish Rex is a lean cat with a short, rippled coat that’s soft and warm to the touch. The breed originates from Cornwall, SW England and has been wowing cat show judges since the 1950s.

The Cornish Rex’s wavy, sometimes even curly, close-lying coat is very fine and short. This breed has no guard hairs (long, stiffer outer coat), which means it doesn’t shed and can be a good choice for allergy-sufferers. It comes in a large number of coat colours and patterns.

The cat’s long, wedge-shaped head is quite distinctive, with large ears set high on the head, a roman nose and high cheekbones. It has long legs with agile feet (some Cornish Rex can pick up objects with their paws) and a long, thin tail that tapers off.

With its slender, athletic body, the Cornish Rex looks lean and willowy but is by no means weak. Weighing 3-6 kg, it has strong bones and powerful muscles. The Cornish Rex is very energetic and acrobatic. It loves to climb and play well into adulthood.

This is a great cat for active households, as it thrives on human company. Very affectionate and outgoing, the Cornish Rex loves to join in activities and gets on well with other pets and children. It is a quiet cat however, with a soft voice.

Perhaps due to being such a lively cat, the Cornish Rex is also a very hungry cat, and you should take care not to overfeed it. Besides a regular check for earwax and the occasional clipping of the claws, the Cornish Rex needs no specific care and has a life expectancy of around 15 years.
