1. Have your dog walk down the aisle with you

Oh my, just imagine how cute it would be to walk your four-legged friend down the aisle with you on your special day? After all, Fido has seen you at your best and at your worst (remember that time you broke up with Dave?). He’s been by your side through thick and thin. So, why wouldn’t you keep him close by on this very special day?

TIP: Make certain beforehand that your wedding venue of choice allows pets. Also, consider your fur pal’s temperament around large groups of people. Finally, do plenty of practice runs walking down the aisle!

2. Include your dog in the wedding day photos

Dress your dog up to make him look dapper or get him freshly groomed. Either way, your fur baby is sure to look super-cute in your wedding day photos.

TIP: You might consider choosing a photographer who’s well versed in taking snaps of pets. Or, perhaps you have two photographers—one for the humans, one for your pet.

3. Have Rover as your ring bearer

Indeed, if you do decide to include your dog in your wedding day it’ll take some extra care and planning. After all, the last thing you want is your dog running off with the rings! Here are a few tips for avoiding disaster.

Put someone in charge—It’s worthwhile nominating one person to take care of your pooch throughout the day. They can help ensure your dog is calm and feeling comfortable. They will also ease your stress and make certain Rover does what he’s supposed to do. If need be, you could always hire a pet sitter.

Practice makes perfect — Whether it is walking down the aisle or sitting obediently by the altar, make sure your pet practices for their big appearance! The last thing you want is your dog refusing to walk down the aisle or to jump all over your guests during the ceremony. Make sure you have treats at hand to help control the situation.

Give guests the heads up — You love your dog but that doesn’t mean everyone loves dogs. Be sure to advise your guests that your dog will be present at the ceremony. This will help avoid any allergic reactions or fear-related freak-outs!

Make sure your dog is happy and well—It may be your dream to include your dog in your wedding day but if he’s not well or seems out of sorts, be prepared to change the plan.
