The playful Pug is very popular in Australia.  A stocky little dog with short legs, a big head, a short, blunt muzzle and large, protruding eyes. It has a square, compact body with thick, wrinkly skin and a tightly curled tail. One of the Pug’s most-loved features is its cute, wrinkly face with its big dark eyes. 

The Pug’s short coat is fine and soft and comes in the colours apricot, fawn, black and silver. Pugs are easy to groom but they are a seasonally heavy shedder.

Female Pugs are about 25-30 cm tall and weigh 6-8 kg, while males are usually 30-36 cm tall and weigh up to 9 kg.

These lively dogs keep their owners amused with their boisterous character and adorable faces. Pugs are generally happy, loving and affectionate dogs. They are a good choice for families with kids and other animals: they get along well with other pets and are well-behaved around children and strangers.

Pugs are also a suitable breed for people living in townhouses and apartments, as they are fine without a yard and are fairly sedentary indoors, although they do need a daily walk.

There are a few things to watch out for with Pugs. They catch colds easily and get stressed from hot or cold weather, so it’s best to keep them indoors at a comfortable temperature. Their short muzzle can cause breathing problems, and Pugs are prone to allergies, skin problems, Pug Dog Encephalitis, and issues related to its eyes and mouth. You should also ensure not to overfeed your Pug. Their life expectancy is 12-15 years.
